In collaboration with EWERS Fahrzeugbau, a body specifically tailored to the requirements of beverage logistics has been developed for the Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell for the first time. The world’s first vehicle of its kind was handed over to the beverage logistics company Gettrans at the ‘Night of Hydrogen’ in Hanover.
Different transport tasks place different demands on a commercial vehicle. In beverage logistics in particular, efficient loading and unloading processes, load securing and payload play a key role.
For use at Gettrans, a bespoke solution based on the Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell was therefore developed in collaboration with EWERS Fahrzeugbau. The swing wall body enables rapid side loading and unloading and combines certified load securing with a high payload.
The truck-and-trailer combination offers a total of 36 spaces for Euro pallets and is designed for regional beverage transport. It can also be used in a two-shift operation. The Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell has thus been specifically adapted to the requirements of this particular logistics application at Gettrans.
From vehicle to specific transport solution
This custom-designed Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell demonstrates how solutions for specific transport requirements can be realised in collaboration with specialist partners.
Apart from this solution developed specifically for Gettrans, the Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell is already available today with various certified body options. These include refrigerated and dry box bodies, curtain-sided and swap bodies, hook-lift trucks and refuse collection vehicles.
This means the Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell can be used for a variety of heavy-duty transport tasks and configured to meet specific operational requirements.
‘Hydrogen Pioneer’ Award for the beverage logistics solution
The joint development work was further recognised at the Night of Hydrogen in Hanover: H2 MOBILITY presented EWERS Fahrzeugbau and Gettrans with the ‘Hydrogen Pioneer’ Award for the development of the specialised beverage logistics body.
A special moment of the evening was the official handover of the vehicle: Jae Han Koh, Vice President Commercial Vehicle Europe & America at Hyundai Motor Company, handed over the Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell to Steffen Richter, Managing Director of Gettrans. With the handover of the keys, the vehicle – specially configured to meet the requirements of beverage logistics – is now entering service with the customer.
Another hydrogen ecosystem for real-world operation
Gettrans’ new XCIENT Fuel Cell also embodies an approach that Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility has pursued from the outset: hydrogen mobility in heavy goods transport requires more than just the vehicle itself.
Crucial to this is the collaboration between the various stakeholders – from transport companies and vehicle and bodywork manufacturers right through to hydrogen supply and refuelling infrastructure.
Centred around Gettrans’ new Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell, another hydrogen customer ecosystem is thus taking shape in the Frankfurt area: featuring a specific vehicle, a specific transport task and the partners who make its day-to-day operation possible.
The project thus serves as a prime example of how new applications for hydrogen in heavy goods transport can be realised through collaboration between various partners.
Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility would like to thank Gettrans for placing its trust in the Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell, as well as EWERS Fahrzeugbau for its close cooperation in developing this unique solution.
